Speed of Execution

If your dog is not performing DOWN quickly we need to find out whether he lacks motor skills.

• Place your dog in a SIT.
• Lure the dog very quickly into a DOWN. Chances are the dog will throw both legs down.

Reward only fast performances. Be careful not to get to the breaking point due to the lack of reinforcement. Some dogs can get frustrated and slow down even more.

Please start using Negative Reinforcement. Give the verbal cue and at the same time apply Negative Reinforcement with the leash. The moment all 4 legs are on the ground – release the pressure, mark and reinforce. Please be careful with timing (starts with the word and ends with the correct DOWN) and dosage (as little as possible and as much as necessary).

Speed will come with many reps.
