To remedy the slow speed of return, the Handler will call the dog and as the dog on his way, mark, the handler will spread his legs and toss a tug behind him. The dog will have to zoom through to get to the reinforcer.

It is important to vary the distance from the Handler and when the marker comes. For instance, right after the dog picks up the dumbbell, or halfway to the Handler, or very close to the Handler. Mix-and-match to avoid creating expectations.
