Step 4 – Shift Gears

Tobias starts the exercise with “Scare the Helper Away,” the dog reacts with power then Tobias immediately grabs the pillow and switches to silent prey drive. When Tobias locks up – the puppy switches to barking and defense drive.

Because we want the puppy to bite in the prey mode, Tobias switches to big wave motions and present the pillow.

Then they switch to fight about the prey and then the puppy gets another bite.

If you feel that the dog is locked in prey – get him to do more barks. When he barks well – you can reward this immediately.

The whip is not actually used in agitation but as a signal for lock up and defense mode. Tobias does more barking because the dog leaned more towards the prey drive.
