Opposition Reflex Step 1 With a Box

The 7-month old puppy has never been on the Parking Box. In this session, we spend more time getting him on the box vs. using Opposition Reflex.

Of course, never forget to hold the leash.

First, we lure the dog onto the box and give him a clear release word to get off. We reinforce a few times while he is on the box.

Something a Handler could have done a little better – when you are trying to lure the dog, and he is not responding – chances are, your hand is too far away. Put it right in front of the dog’s nose and let him get a kibble. After that, move your hand to lure into the position.

Opposition Reflex does not only mean the use of the leash. The Handler tries to push the dog with the hand holding the food. The dog pushes against the pressure to stay on the box. Hence, another use of Opposition Reflex.
