The Dog is Hovering

As you can see, the dog is clearly hovering – 00:50 sec. The challenge was created by the Handler reinforcing the dog too quickly.

The Handler will use the leash as a Negative Reinforcement. Once the dog’s rear is firmly on the ground, the Handler will release the leash, mark, and reinforce – 01:35 sec. The Handler is too quick and does not separate marking and reinforcing very well. This makes it hard for the dog to process information.

To help the Handler fade secondary cues he gives with his body (leaning), Anna is his Assistant with a second leash – 02:52 sec. She now applies Negative Reinforcement.

The Handler is slowing down his movements to make it easier for the dog and the Assistant to work together – 03:41 sec. This method will work but requires repetitions.
