About Turns

There are two About Turns in the Heeling portion. You can choose either Flip (when you and the dog turn to the left together) or Wrap Around (you turn left and the dog goes behind you). You should stay consistent and perform the same turn.

Faulty:

  • The most common way to lose points during the Flip About Turn is when the dog’s turn is incomplete. This means that the rear does not move 180°. The rear moves partially and the dog falls back into the heeling position as the Handler steps forward.
  • When the dog forges or lags during the turn.
  • When the head drops and the dog disconnects from the Handler.
  • Some Handlers move their left shoulder abruptly or even lean into the dog to indicate the turn. It can be faulty and considered Handler’s help to the dog.
